Artists' Development

 hanging blank poloroid

Over the past two years the Artists’ Development initiative has facilitated the research and development of some 35 artists embracing many and varied art forms.

Some of these projects have progressed from early exploration into full-scale productions. These include: Give it a Name’s adaptation of Heart of Darkness as a site-specific performance at 10 Feet Tall, and most recently, their ska musical Rude, performed in The Rocking Chair; and Gareth Potter’s one-man play, Gadael yr Ugeinfed Ganrif, co-produced by Sherman Cymru and Dan y Gwely. Future projects include: a production of Caryl Churchill’s Serious Money directed by Mathilde Lopez and produced by Waking Exploits.

We want to hear your ideas. We want to help you make work.

We are seeking applications from artists looking to develop their practice with a specific project within a professional theatre environment.

  • Are you an undiscovered talent?
  • Are you seeking to develop your craft in new exciting ways?
  • Do you need a platform to explore, experiment or simply try out some stuff?
  • Would access to resources, time, space, and advice from our team of skilled professionals help you move your artistic practice into a new realm?

Artists might include: Directors, Actors, Lighting Designers, Sound Designers, Designers, Choreographers, Dancers, Performance Poets, Performance Artists, Composers, Singers and all other performance practitioners.

We welcome applications for projects in both English and Welsh - applications for this scheme should state:

  • How this would help you develop and evolve as an artist
  • Details of a particular project you wish to develop with us at Sherman Cymru.
