Building Plans

Sherman will undergo an extensive refurbishment over the next two years, which will see the theatre transformed and become a landmark building on the Cathays side of Cardiff.

"Our redevelopment plans are aimed to give the Capital City of Wales's only producing theatre the venue it, and its audience, deserves - something of which we can all be proud."
Emyr Jenkins, Chair of Sherman Cymru Board of Trustees

Architects, Capita Symonds, who were also the architects on the Wales Millennium Centre project, have produced artistic impressions of what the new theatre could look like (See Gallery) The new building will transform audiences experience with a complete overhaul of the front of house area including new toilets, new bar and café facilities as well a totally new look for the front of the theatre. There will also be new seating, heating and ventilation systems as well as improvements to accessibility in all areas of the building. The backstage areas will also be enhanced for staff and participants, including a new rehearsal room for talent to be developed.

The artistic impressions of the new theatre are also on display in the Sherman foyer until the theatre closes in January 2010.
