For the past 4 years Sherman has hosted the Theatre Arts Programmes Symposium (TAPS) run by ISTA, the International Schools Theatre Association.
100 students and their theatre arts teachers come from all corners of the world to have a seminal theatre and learning experience that acts as a launch pad for their own further explorations of theatre, within the context of the IB Theatre programme.
This intensive learning opportunity offers students an ensemble experience that engages them with the philosophy of the new International Baccalaureate programme; the tools and strategies to manage their own discoveries and learning in theatre; an experience that can act as a starting point and resource for further work in their own schools; a context to meet and work in collaboration with other students and the chance to see a range of theatre performances.
The students are also offered Master Classes focussing on a specific area of theatre and in Cardiff these are run by Sherman Cymru directors, designers and writers, who passionately engage them with the often intangible and raw domain of theatre making.
The Cardiff TAPS is a highlight in the ISTA calendar and the 400 or so international students who have come to Sherman over the years love it and really value the cultural experience they have in Wales.
