Audience Member Donates His Car To Help Fundraising Campaign
11 Feb 2011
A Cardiff theatre goer has decided to turn his unwanted vehicle into a helpful charitable donation towards Sherman Cymru’s Scrap a Car Scheme.
Doctor Jez Williamson, of Cathays, Cardiff decided to give his unwanted Vauxhall Astra to Sherman Cymru’s Redevelopment Campaign as a way of helping the theatre with their fundraising.

Doctor Williamson, said “I have very fond memories of the Sherman. In fact my first theatre experience was coming to see Fantastic Mr Fox with the school at Christmas. Since then as a student and now as a professional I have seen some fantastic comedians and some really good plays there. Sherman is a great theatre especially in this area of Cardiff.”
“Over the last few months I’ve been passing the theatre on my way to work and seeing how the building is changing and I wanted to support it some how. Give-a-car made sense. I was going to get rid of my old car and this way I can support a local charity at the same time and help ensure that future generations get the theatre experience that I had.”
The not-for profit Give-a-Car scheme allows vehicle owners to donate their unwanted items to a charity of their choice. Sherman Cymru is only one of a few charities signed up to the scheme in Wales.
Emma Goad, Head of Development for Sherman Cymru, said:
“Give-a-car is a great way for our audiences to support our redevelopment campaign. It’s so easy to do with just a few clicks of a button online. Give-a-car will collect any car or vehicle, roadworthy or not, nationwide and arrange collection of your vehicle for free, at no cost to you.”
“The cars are either sold at auction or disposed of in accordance with DVLA and Environmental Agency guidelines. The proceeds from either the auction or the scrapping will then go towards Sherman Cymru’s redevelopment campaign. It’s a great way to help us fundraise, as well as helping the environment as well.”
The Give-a-car scheme is one of the many ways Sherman Cymru is raising money for the £5.4 million redevelopment of its theatre building, which is due to reopen in late Autumn 2011.
