What We Do
As well as working with our commissioned writers and reading and responding to unsolicited scripts that we receive, the Creative Team at Sherman Cymru are an active resource for Welsh and Wales-based writers, providing guidance and opportunity wherever possible. We operate through the medium of Welsh and English and with writers of all backgrounds, ages and levels of experience.
Starting Out....Have you got something to say?
We are always looking for people with strong ideas and unique visions. If you think that you have a taste for writing and would like to learn more, or if you have written in other media and want to explore writing for the stage, then send a sample of your work by post to the Literary Team, Sherman Cymru. We could help you develop your play, or help you turn your idea into a play!

Unsolicited Scripts and Script Reading
Please read these guidelines before submitting your script:
• We work primarily with Welsh and Wales-based writers, but do accept scripts and other examples of literary work from further afield.
• We accept plays from inexperienced writers as well as established playwrights.
• Please send your work unbound and enclose a front cover with your name, address, telephone number, email, the work’s title and date sent.
• All unsolicited scripts sent to Sherman Cymru will be read by our team of readers and feedback will be provided. It can take up to two months to get the response sent to you so please be patient!
• We only accept hard copies, so please do not email them and please enclose a SAE if you want your script to be returned.
• If we decide to take your work further, there is an opportunity to work intensively with the Literary Team on consecutive drafts, workshopping etc.
• We look forward to reading your work.

Database
We have an ever-growing number of writers on our database. Having your details means that we can keep you informed about events or opportunities in Wales, the rest of the UK and beyond. These could vary from reduced ticket prices for Sherman Cymru productions (see Writers Nights for details) and Sherman Cymru courses, to playwriting competitions, short film courses and writing residencies.
